Seafood provides an ocean of goodness to your diet. It is a good source of protein, low in saturated fats and high in long chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fats. It also supplies fat-soluble vitamins A and D, some B vitamins and trace elements such as Iodine, Zinc and Selenium to the diet. Indeed, mussels are one of the best sources of iodine and selenium. Mussels are also a valuable source of iron which the body uses to facilitate oxygen transport in the body.
Research over the past few decades has highlighted the importance of the nutritional components of seafood to cardiovascular health, brain and cognitive development, reproductive health as well as a variety of other common conditions such as arthritis and asthma. Most attention has focused on the beneficiary effects of omega-3 fatty acids, in particular EPA and DHA to the diet. Fish and seafood are the only natural method of producing the omega-3 that the body needs. Omega-3 fatty acids are strongly associated with protection from coronary heart disease.
Here at Bantry Bay Seafoods, we produce a range of delicious mussel products with added value. We use carefully selected ingredients to accompany the mussels to bring you delicious and healthy products. Globally in recent years, our appetite for seafood is growing as it meets our needs for healthier, low-fat meal solutions which are still bursting with flavour and aroma. Current dietary guidelines recommend that we consume seafood at least twice per week and include oily fish at least once per week.
