GREEN ISSUES
Environmental Policy
This policy has been developed by Bantry Bay Seafoods. Our company was established in 1991 and we currently produce 6,000 tonne of frozen value-added mussels annually. The mussels are farm-raised on the west coast of Ireland. Our company employs 100 people both full and part-time.
Our company’s future depends on a clean environment therefore we respect the environment we work in, fully support sustainable development and we are committed to environmentally sound practises in our business. To fulfil these commitments we:
- Ensure compliance with EU and nation law and any higher voluntary standards to which we subscribe
- Work to continuously improve our environmental performance
- Work to reduce waste, conserve energy and where possible re-use and re-cycle materials
- Ensure that employees are aware of our environmental policy and their responsibility in this area
- Promote a culture in which our employees contribute to our environmental policy
- Maintain our participation in local coast zone management initiatives
- Are responsive to local issues/concerns and act immediately to address them
- Will convert all our farm floats to visually inert grey floats
- Will convert all the farm to the use of biodegradable cotton mesh as opposed to plastic
- It is policy to provide information to interested parties.
Our environmental policy will be a central element of all our future development.
